28 deputy controllers pass-out from academy By Adepote Arowojobe
A total of 24 Deputy Controller of Prisons passed out from prison Academy in Ijebu-Igbo in furtherance of their career progression.
Speaking at the passing out ceremony, the Controller General of Nigerian Prisons Service . (NPS) (CG) Alhaji Ja,afaru Ahmed said that human capacity development remains one of the utmost priorities in the prison reform programmes for effective service delivery as a correctional centre.
According to him, his administration has identified training, and retraining of personnel as bedrock of good penal practise in the country.
"I am delighted to be here this morning to witness the graduation ceremony which marks the end of your course as your service progresses.
"Let me quickly remind renind you that this administration identifies training and retatraining as bedrock of good penal practise.
"More than 12,000 staff have gone on various, retatraining and refresher courses within the last three (3) years of my tenure in office," Ahmed said.
According to the CG, the service has procured and distributed 219, 49 and 116 court duties and operational vehicles in 2016, 2017 and 2018 respectively to felicitate the production of awaiting trial persons in court as when due." More vehicle were distributed last two weeks ago"
The CG was represented by Chuks Victor Uche, Assistant Controller General (ACG) Zone A in charge of Lagos and Ogun States.
Controller of Prison(CP) Oluwayiopese Benson congratulate all the participants for successful completion of courses adding that the course was designed to measure their career progression to rank of Controller of prison.
Bensin urged the participants to impact positively and mentor their subordinate and bring about a more efficient, effective, proactive, responsive and amiable prison service that would be better appreciated by Nigerians and globally.
The overall best student, DCP Babafemi Jaiyeola who spoke on behalf of the participants urged his colleagues to make use of knowledge acquired during in the academy in their various formations across the country.
Jaiyeola urged Fg to upgrade the academy so that officers and countries in Africa would be able to send their officers to the academy for training.
