Gov. Soludo seeks FG's support to tackle insecurity

  Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra says that effective collaboration with the Federal Government would complement efforts at resolving the security challenges in the state. Soludo stated this on Friday when he received the Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, who was on a courtesy visit to Anambra. While welcoming the vice president, he harped on the need for effective coalition among the progressives in Nigeria to enhance the growth and development of the country, given the current state of the nation. "You are highly welcome to Anambra state and your contributions to nation building as the Chairman of the National Economic Council, is commendable," he said.  A Presidential Aspirant of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof. Peter Umeadi, on Tuesday solicited the support of the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohaneze Ndigbo to actualise Igbo Presidency project. Onitsha becoming a 'dead' city, Gov. Soludo laments

  Gov. Charles Soludo of Anambra State, has lamented the high rate of evacuation of businesses and productive assets from Onitsha to other neighbouring states. Soludo expressed the displeasure at a strategic meeting with landlords in Onitsha. Landlords from Omagba Phases l and ll, GRA Onitsha Zone, Onitsha Housing Estate, American Quarters, Trans-Nkisi areas, among many others, participated in the meeting. The Governor explained that the meeting was in line with the mantra of "Be Your Brother's Keeper', saying that it has become necessary to dialogue on how best to reclaim Onitsha, starting from the contributions of the landlords. Anambra Govt. plans to construct  international drug market

 The Anambra State Government says plans are underway to construct an international drug market to reduce the influx of adulterated and low quality drugs into homes and health facilities in the state. Dr Afam Obidike, the state Commissioner for Health made the disclosure on Thursday, during an on-the-spot assessment of the location at Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state, along with officials of the state Physical Planning Board. Obidike said: "Anambra is one of the four states benefitting from the project alongside, Kano, Abia and Lagos, with works in the other three states almost at different completion stages. "Unfortunately, the project was unable to take off in Anambra due to bottlenecks and  encroachment by illegal developers. "Gov. Convid-19: Six more persons isolated in Lagos

A family of four children and their teacher who recently returned from the United States of America and suspected for COVID-19 has been isolated at the Biosecurity Facility of the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, the Lagos State Government has said. Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi who disclosed this today at a news conference to give updates on COVID19 in Lagos stated that the four children and their teacher were in close proximity with someone who had coronavirus infection. He explained further that the first test carried out on them was negative adding that a confirmation tests will still be repeated to determine the next point of action. Abayomi also announced that a man who recently returned from the UK and suspected for COVID19 is in Isolation at the Mainland Hospital noting that his samples have been collected and test being conducted to determine his status. Feb.  28, 2020 The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, on Friday confirmed the first case of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak in Lagos, saying it was brought in by an Italian citizen. Abayomi, however, said the State Emergency Operations Centre in response to the case and implementing firm control measures has been activated. He said in Lagos that the case was brought in by an Italian citizen who entered Nigeria on Feb. 25 from Milan, Italy for a brief business visit. The commissioner said that the case was confirmed on Feb. 27, and has been reported to the Federal Ministry of Health. The Anambra House of Assembly has called on Gov. Willie Obiano to direct the state Ministry of Health to construct a quarantine facility to check the spread of viral diseases in an event of health emergency in the state. The House made the call in its resolution on Thursday, following a motion moved by Mr Lawrence Ezeudu (Dunukofia) under Matters of Urgent Public Importance. Ezeudu said it was important to have a quarantine facility in an outskirt area to house people afflicted with contagious and dreaded disease separate from other patients and people.
